چکیده

Fast pyrolysis of biomass is a well-known opportunity for sustainable alternative fuel production transport and energy. However, bio-oils from are viscous, acidic bio-crudes that need further steps upgrading before being used either as fuels or chemicals. A process complementary to bio-oil hydrotreatment co-processing consists optimizing tuning the upstream condensation fast separate concentrate selected classes compounds. This can be implemented by varying temperatures in multi-step unit. In this study, fractional vapors pinewood has been applied bubbling fluidized bed reactor 1 kg h−1 feed. The was operated at 500 °C connected downstream interchangeable Tests were performed using two different condensing layouts: (1) series spray condensers tube-in-tube water-jacketed condenser, referred an intensive cooler; (2) electrostatic precipitator cooler. Using first configuration, which focus high boiling point compounds—such sugars lignin-derived oligomers—were condensed higher stage (100–170 °C), while water-soluble lighter compounds most water lower thus largely removed bio-oil. stages, content remained below 7% mass (and therefore, oil’s calorific reached 22 MJ kg−1) achieving about 43% liquid yield, compared 55% single-step runs. Results finally elaborated perform preliminary energy assessment whole system toward potential upscaling approach. proposed layout showed significant step, simplifying stages

Catalyst-assisted Conversion of Pyrolysis Bio-oil into Fuels

The aldol condensation of model compounds furfural and acetone on the selected base catalysts have been performed. The activity of MgO was compared with industrially produced hydrotalcite and the series laboratory prepared hydrotalcites. Si×MAl2O4 hydrotalcites (M = Mg, Zn, Ni, Co, Cu, and Fe) were prepared by the solgel method at low calcination temperature of 300°C. The properties of the cata...

Pyrolysis of Seaweeds for Bio-oil and Bio-char Production

A pyrolysis study on a species of brown algae Saccharina japonica was carried out in a fixed-bed reactor. The yields of bio-oil and bio-char obtained at 450 C were 47 % and 33 %, respectively. The raw S, japonica, ethanol and acid pretreated samples and the resulting pyrolysis products were also characterized with respect to proximate and ultimate analysis, and higher heating value. The crude b...

Optimization of Bark Fast Pyrolysis for the Production of Phenol-Rich Bio-oil

Bark is one of the most under-utilized types of lignocellulosic biomass in the forest industry. In this study, bark fast pyrolysis was optimized for phenols yield using response surface methodology (RSM), considering the pyrolysis temperature, gas flow rate, and biomass particle size. The bio-oil generated under optimal conditions was then characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (...

Upgrading of Pyrolysis Bio-oil: A Review

The increase in the population of the planet and the rapid economic growth and, consequently, the high consumption of energy has created many environmental problems in the globe. Due to these reasons and the lack of renewability of these fossil fuels, there has been a steep trend towards the production of renewable fuels from natural sources, one of which is the production of energy from biomas...
